The Financial Literacy Challenge is a yearly initiative organised by the Home Economics Seminar Centre within the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes in collaboration with the Malta Bankers’ Association. Two separate challenges are organised; one for primary schools and another for secondary schools. These are offered as part of the European Money Week and Global Money Week.
The Young Chef Challenge targets pupils in Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6. It provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their financial knowledge, skills, and capabilities by providing them with first-hand experience in wise budgeting. Through this challenge, participants create a healthy, low-cost food item with emphasis on the following areas: seasonality, sustainability, and local produce.
The challenge is open to State, Church, and Independent schools. The challenge aims to promote awareness related to financial capabilities.
